Now 16, he is recognized as a highly talented emerging pianist, and has already garnered international recognition as laureate of numerous competitions including the International Piano Competition for Young Pianists Kronberg, Neuchâtel International Piano Competition, United Kingdom Rotary Young Musician Competition , and South African National Youth Music Competition. He is also recognised as a chamber musician of International Standing as recipient of the 2024 Italian Rospigliosi International Primo Premio Assoluto and Audience Choice awards for chamber musicians under 35, an accolade obtained when still aged only 14.

His exceptional abilities were evident early: he was admitted to the Royal College of Music in London at age 9, where he studied with composer and pianist Prach Boondiskulchok.

Hiemstra was admitted to the Hochschule für Musik in Basel, Switzerland, at the age of 15, where he studies under Benedek Horváth. He has also worked with some of the most distinguished pianists of our time including Konstantin Scherbakov, Ronan O'Hora, Andreas Weber, and Steven Kovacevich.

He has performed extensively in the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and South Africa. At 12, he made his orchestral debut performing Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor with the Bedford Sinfonia. His distinctive sound, extraordinary creativity and musical maturity continues to captivate audiences, and have been praised by musicians and critics alike.
